Windows Service Troubleshooting

Title: Windows Service Troubleshooting

Description:

Whenever I face issue when starting windows services like IIS services, SQL services, SharePoint services or any other service.

I use process monitor a free Microsoft tool and set filtering for a particular service.

Run process monitor with filtering on two servers where the service is working and other where the service is not working\starting.

Below is an example to set filter for IIS Service.YOu can find the value 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k iissvcs' from service property in services.msc console.

Step to set filter -
    In Process Monitor, click Filter/Filter…
Select “Command Line” and “is” for the first two drop-down lists.
Then enter C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k iissvcs and click Add as follows:

Once the filter is set, start monitoing and then start the service, now look at the process monitor for clue.
